The “Smooth Everyday Life” guide offers tips for families with young children

The “Smooth Everyday Life” guide offers parents practical tips on how to reduce the stress of daily life. The guide is particularly helpful for parents whose pre-school or primary school-age child has challenges related to self-regulation or neuropsychiatric symptoms. It is published by Barnavårdsföreningen and the ADHD association in Finland.

The “Smooth Everyday Life” guide offers ideas and practices for everyday situations, such as how to help your child get dressed, transition from one situation to another, and how to resolve conflicts. The guide also includes tips on how to strengthen your parenting resources.

Daily life with children that behave in a challenging way can occasionally be tough. In these scenarios, practical advice can be very valuable.

The guide can be used as a manual for families with small children. Problems that seem complex do not necessarily require complex solutions, says psychologist Silve Serenius-Sirve at Barnavårdsföreningen.

The guide is particularly helpful for parents whose pre-school or primary school-age child has challenges related to self-regulation or neuropsychiatric symptoms. It will also benefit professionals working with these children and their families.

The warm reception of the Finnish handbook was the reason we wanted to translate it into English. Many parents have wished that the guide was included in the Finnish maternity package, says therapist Katariina Berggren at the ADHD association.

The original Finnish guide Arki toimimaan was published in 2011, in collaboration between Barnavårdsföreningen and the ADHD association in Finland. Later it was also published in Swedish, Få vardagen att fungera, and now also in English. The realisation of the English version was made in collaboration with the Wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava.
